New Amsterdam Trio
The New Amsterdam Trio is an international collaboration that finds Swiss Pianist Daniel Roser, Dutch Percussionist Gustan Asselbergs and New York Trombonist and Countertenor David Whitwell beginning to search for a new path in improvised music. They have seamlessly fused art songs of Schubert, Bernstein, Dowland, American folk songs and others with their own brand of accessible, tonally centered post jazz improvisation. The group holds a clarity of musical idea above all else, acknowledging the immense trust placed in them by their audiences- they believe that music happens to an audience not only intellectually but also corporally, and thus they bring a style of improvisation that is immediately approachable, mixing freely improvised musical situations with pre planned forms and melodies. They seek to provide not entertainment yet not meditation, but something in between, leaving space in their music not only for each other but for the audience to find something they may be searching for. www.newamsterdamtrio.eu |
New album: Tides - Roser/Moser/Asselbergs
For this project Daniel Roser and Gustan Asselbergs invited Swiss oud-player Christian Moser to embark on a musical journey. In search of a sonic realm that gives space to the wide variety of sounds and timbres of the oud, the piano, and the drums, these three musicians developed a rich yet delicate language that enables them to use the full scope of their instruments. The five pieces on Tides not only reflect new ways of combining compositional structures with improvisational elements, but also show a subtle dialogue between traditions. The Old Church in Spaarndam, with its unique acoustics, appeared to ber the perfect place to record. Like all musical gestures, rooted in a deeper stream that shapes our individuality, Tides is the story of a musical unfolding. bandcamp www.roserasselbergs.com |

EP Gestures Roser/Asselbergs (2019):
ROSER/ASSELBERGS - GESTURES
The six tracks on Gestures form a journey through all the subtle movements of musical dialogue. Flow, stillness, contrast and space: these are the elements that mark the intimate world shaped by pianist Daniel Roser and drummer Gustan Asselbergs. Their intuitive way of playing leaves room for the unexpected and opens up a space for the smallest gesture to become a turning point. Rather than limiting the musical possibilities by all-defining compositions Roser/Asselbergs let the music evolve from clear yet challenging points of departure which invite the listener to engage with the musical stream. Gestures is the duo's first release. It captures music at the moment of its acoustic creation. Recorded on 28 and 29 december 2019 Helmbreker Studio (Haarlem, The Netherlands) www.roserasselbergs.com bandcamp |
