Gustan Asselbergs is a versatile Dutch drummer with a multidisciplinary background. He holds a M.A. degree in philosophy and has been active as a writer next to being a professional drummer. Brought up in a musical environment, Gustan started playing drums at an early age. After studying with different teachers he found his own musical path which led him to various collaborations, like Grondstoff and Labor. He recorded for film and did session work. In 2018 he joined forces with Swiss pianist Daniel Roser which resulted in two albums so far. Currently he is involved in two new projects: Roser/Moser/Asselbergs and New Amsterdam Trio with trombonist and counter tenor David Whitwell. Gustan's strong focus on sound, touch and careful listening is what his playing characterizes; thereby enabling the possibility to be creative behind the drums in any situation. Hence his belief that genres and traditions do matter but should not be restricting.
